Crafting a Home in Harmony with Nature

At Pacific Blue, every custom home tells a unique story. Our recent project at Upper Rosemount reflects not only our commitment to quality craftsmanship but also our ability to adapt and innovate to meet the challenges of a specific site.

A Site Transformed: Civil Earthworks and Stormwater Solutions

Upper Rosemount posed a challenge beyond typical home construction: managing significant overland stormwater flow. Collaborating with engineers, we crafted a stormwater solution using rock-lined swale drains to seamlessly integrate two dams, allowing water to flow without disrupting the property. Precision civil earthworks ensured the site was both secure and aesthetically aligned with its surroundings.

Client Vision Realised: A Cohesive Design

The clients’ desire to incorporate natural elements into their home extended beyond materials. A playful green theme was introduced with crocodile-spotted tiles in the laundry, subtle accents in the powder room, and a feature wall in the master bedroom. These thoughtful touches added personality while maintaining harmony with the overall design.

Reflecting on the project’s journey, the initial mood board was instrumental in guiding the design. Every detail, from the timber finishes to the flooring, stayed true to the original vision, resulting in a home that is as beautiful as it is practical.

Designing a Rural Retreat: Nature at the Forefront

The Upper Rosemount home embraces its natural surroundings with a unique “butterfly-inspired” layout. The central front door acts as a transition between two wings – one dedicated to living spaces, including the kitchen and garage, and the other to the bedroom quarters. This layout mirrors the clients’ vision of connecting their home with the land while offering a practical separation of spaces.

To blend the home seamlessly with its rural setting, a thoughtful palette of mid-tone colours was chosen, avoiding stark contrasts while creating a calm, inviting exterior. The centrepiece of the design is the striking spotted gum timber cladding, which highlights the entrance and draws you through to the interior.

Polished concrete floors take centre stage inside the home, proving that even traditionally understated elements can make bold design statements. The rustic, unpolished finish creates a natural flow between the indoors and outdoors, perfectly complementing the home’s surroundings.

Timber details were carried throughout the interior, including a feature bench seat in the mudroom and timber tones in the kitchen, tying the design together. From the moment you step inside, the home tells a cohesive story of warmth, functionality, and a deep connection to nature.
