The brief and the vision
From the street, the outcome is immediate. Curved masonry walls, constructed from handmade natural clay bricks, define the home’s identity. These curves require a high level of craftsmanship and coordination to execute correctly. Each radius, each junction, and each transition has been carefully resolved on site, ensuring the brickwork wraps seamlessly around the home. The result is a refined structure with a warmth that carries from the exterior throughout.
The spaces
Every detail matters when a home is built to last.
Arrival has been deliberately built to set the tone. A 1200mm wide blonde oak entry door sits recessed within a curved brick welcoming statement, requiring careful detailing between materials to achieve a clean and durable finish. From here, honey ironbark vinyl planks run consistently throughout the home, creating continuity underfoot while offering a practical, hard wearing solution for daily family life.
Internally, the layout has been constructed to maximise usability within a modest footprint. Ceiling heights, natural light, and the introduction of curves work together to expand the perceived scale of the home. Bulkheads, walls, and joinery lines have been carefully aligned to maintain flow, ensuring the home feels larger than its footprint suggests, while still delivering clear separation between key zones.
At the centre of the home, the kitchen has been delivered with a balance of durability and refinement. Taj Mahal stone benchtops have been installed with tight tolerances, paired with custom Boston oak cabinetry. Integrated storage, concealed services, and clean joinery detailing ensure the space performs under daily use, without compromising the overall finish. A half arched opening leads into a full butler’s pantry... a detail that required precise framing and finishing to maintain alignment with the main kitchen while allowing for full functional expansion behind the scenes.
Living spaces extend directly outward, where construction transitions become critical. Internal finishes meet external materials through carefully detailed thresholds, ensuring longevity while maintaining visual continuity. The handmade brickwork continues externally, meeting natural travertine paving... a material selection that performs well in outdoor conditions while reinforcing the home’s overall palette.
The outdoor area has been constructed as a true extension of the home. Covered entertaining zones, integrated cabinetry, and an arched pool form have all been delivered with a consistent level of detail and quality. The pool structure and surrounding finishes have been carefully coordinated to align with the curved architectural language, ensuring the external environment feels cohesive rather than secondary.
Throughout the home, lighting has been layered into the build. Recessed LED strips, skylights, and architectural openings have been coordinated early to ensure clean installation and long term performance. These elements allow the home to transition naturally from day to night, without reliance on harsh overhead lighting.
The main bedroom has been positioned to achieve clear separation from the primary living zones... a planning decision that required careful consideration of structure, services, and access. The walk in robe and ensuite have been constructed with the same level of precision, with skylights introduced to bring in natural light while maintaining privacy. The double shower and full height tiling have been executed to ensure both durability and a refined finish.
Practical spaces have been treated with equal importance. The laundry has been positioned for direct external access, functioning as a secondary entry and mudroom when required. These decisions, while subtle, are resolved through construction, ensuring the home supports everyday use without compromise.
Mill Road is ultimately a project defined by control in execution. From the complexity of the curved brickwork to the alignment of internal finishes, every element has been carefully considered and delivered. The result is a home that feels calm, warm, and timeless, with a level of craftsmanship that is evident from the street and carried consistently throughout.
